CSX Chessie Heritage Unit 1973 Battles STEEP Grade During Solar Eclipse | Trains in Cowan, Tennessee
Welcome to Cowan, Tennessee - home of the steepest CSX railroad grade in the Volunteer State. It’s also one of the oldest mainlines in the southeast, built by the Nashville & Chattanooga Railway between 1849 and 1859. The difficult terrain over the Highland Rim and Cumberland Plateau resulted in countless delays, preventing the railroad from reaching Chattanooga for nearly a decade. Without a v...

This line once saw 15 daily coal trains which gradually decreased over time, beginning in 1980. By 2008, there were only 4 daily trains, with the final regularly scheduled train running in October 2016. This section from Ravenna t...

In 2022 and 2023, we visited the "backwaters" of the KCS system in Missouri and Mississippi to capture the last days of the company before the merger with Canadian Pacific. This video is a comprehensive tour of the lesser-known ex-GM&O extremities of KCS Railway. In this video, you'll ride on the pilot of Clinchfield 800, a 1940s vintage EMD F7 locomotive, across the CSX EK Subdivision between ...

I wonder if this is where the term burnout came from?
Southern Railway 4501 is amazing to see in operation at the Tennessee Valley Railway Museum.
Nickel Plate Road 765 is a incredible looking 2-8-4.
Repairs to the line are slowly but surely being made
Nothing like a good steam bath 🚂 People pay lost of money for that at a spa💰
Great video man, lots of great shots! You caught a lot of freights too, must have annoyed the crew a little lol.
Thanks a lot!
But please in the future I know that words are exactly that words but if you use a headline like blasted by STEAM when you see the white puffs of smoke that’s not STEAM that’s condensate basically the return after the live steam has been used it drops in temperature and with this you can visibly see condensate as I mentioned in my last comment if you were to it’s no different than a kettle if you stuck your head over top of the kettle what’s coming out of the kettle is condensate keep in mind it’s still hot however if you were to direct the mist of STEAM particularly at above 100 psi it is In essence like a drill and it will go through anything and most easily skin muscle etc.
I love the title blasted by steam…..I am a massive locomotive various trains and consists etc. however particularly with STEAM as I am a steamfitter my grandfather’s dad or my great grandfather began working for a Canadian pacific back in the late 1800s and he taught his son who is my grandfather the same trade my grandfather began to teach his kids who are my father and two uncles the trade unfortunately By that time it was 19 fiftyish and diesels were introduced….With this my father and his brothers/ my uncles, had no choice but to reinvent themselves so they began working on steam boilers in churches steam boilers in older buildings throughout Toronto and also a lot of processing for example pasteurizing milk the process of making beer and liquor in many cases it can be a double wall tank where STEAM goes through and heats a large tank of water and ingredients are Added….. So there were and are still many many uses for STEAM especially in the downtown core or Toronto proper they have the Toronto STEAM corporation it has changed to ENWAVE…. Simply another company basically They create steam for processes and with downtown Toronto it’s primarily for HEATING however they’ve also integrated laying large diameter pipe on the bottom of lake Ontario and distributing cold water which is intern used for air conditioning…….I know it was painful to read all of this however The point with regards to the title “Blasted By Steam” I can tell you for a fact that STEAM is actually invisible one cannot see STEAM however once the steam begins to cool and collects molecules of water this is what causes the white plumes of smoke this is condensate not live steam I’m assuming your engine is running roughly 125 psi of STEAM….. and I’ll tell you for example if a steam pipe blew apart and if you were struck by STEAM it would literally be cooked and your bones were just simply drop to the floor if you notice you stick your head out of an older carriage window I’m saying carriage but I’m Canadian but back in the old is on the east coast of Canada they used to run a lot of steam locomotives during the Tourist season and you could literally open the window of the carriage or passenger rail car and you could get a face full of dirty black coal smoke or you could get a find what they call a steam bath to pull out all the blackheads but yes simply to explain I’m not a stickler for corrupting smaller typos etc. however when someone says it been struck by STEAM at the very best the person would be strapped by Third-degree burns and as mentioned worst case scenario bones just simply drop to the ground because live STEAM at 125 psi would basically put it to the point where for example take a chicken wing and you know you can just pull the meat off the bone that’s exactly how any animal would end up
Also yes Berkshires can do switching too
Southern #4501 back at it again.
Geez louise that bridge is tall. We're tiny compared to it
NKP #765 blasts some condensate out
just curious did 4501 climbed up the Saluda Grade in North Carolina?
Yes.
* climb
If my memory serves me correctly, I think I remember that 4501’s class was developed specifically to tackle Saluda Grade. I don’t have any proof of 4501 specifically ever running on that line in regular service, but I do know that other members of its class were allocated specifically to that line, and five of them were given experimental duplex drives under their tenders.
Call your legislators and ask them to side with implementing one man crews on all class one railroads.
All hail the Queen of Steam
Train people are so weird
Thanks!
Yes .... BROTHERS AND SISTERS!!!!...BATHE IN THE STEAM OF GLORIOUS HORSEPOWER AND LET IT CLEANSE YOUR SOUL AND POWER YOUR MIND!!!! Let the congregation sing from CCR verse 2.. Let the midnight special shine the light on me...
Dude got smoked.
I recently painted up my Bachmann HO scale light 4-8-2 into my interpretation of a Tennessee Central Railroad 4-8-2. I got the locomotive up in Nashville at the Tennessee Central Railroad Museum, so I wanted to pay tribute to that. The locomotive has a black cab, smokebox, and tender; while the boiler and cylinders are painted in a metallic blue. Lettering was done using gold Pullman lettering.
Leipsic . . . Ohio?
Yes
I love trains
It’s gorgeous! You did such an amazing job covering this beauty!
Thank you so much!!

I think it would be great if you narrated model railroads the same way you do the full size railroads.😁
